AI-Powered Agriculture App for Pest Prediction and Yield Improvement
Agriculture
In today’s modern world, many farmers still don't have the proper knowledge and technology to achieve good yields. To help nearby rural and urban areas adopt smart farming techniques, we developed an Agriculture app for farmers that will guide farmers to focus on the necessary areas of the farm by studying factors like weather alerts, seasonal cropping advice, pest control tips, and current crop price updates.
Business Problem
Our client is an Agri-Tech startup that works directly with small to medium-scale farmers across their rural regions. They usually offer crop care advice, seasonal planning tips, and useful advice to improve. However, the field experts have to visit the farms frequently to get the farm updates, and sometimes it is too late to suggest updates on soil fertility, crop health, which eventually results in poor production and losses.
Previously, their team used to collect data on an Excel sheet or simply on WhatsApp. But this approach was not efficient as the data, like field reports, crop history, and farmer profiles, was not stored properly. The client’s aim was to reach a broader farmer community, but this manual method was only possible for a limited reach. Plus, there was a delayed communication regarding weather updates, pest alerts, or market rates often reached farmers too late. Hence client realized there are no digital tools to help farmers and improve productivity, which sparked the idea of making an agriculture app for farmers.
The Big Idea
The idea behind making this agriculture mobile app was to provide a digital farming assistant to farmers to offer crop-wise guidance, weather and pest alerts, current market prices, fertilizer and pesticide recommendations, seasonal reminders, and activity tracking. It would also allow the startup to collect field data directly from farmers, monitor crop health remotely, and build detailed profiles to offer personalized support.
Overall, the motive was to motivate rural farmers to use digital tools and use AI app for agriculture for safe and profitable farming.
Brief Into The App
This agriculture mobile app is designed to help rural and semi-urban areas and supports multiple languages to help farmers speaking different languages in nearby regions. It allows farmers to select their crops and location, and the app will show relevant tips, reminders, and tasks. It also shows daily prices for crops in nearby mandis or towns. Based on the location selected by the farmer in the app, it will show current weather forecast reports and pest reports. The app will act as a farming partner by providing step-by-step guides for sowing, irrigation, disease prevention, harvesting, and also recommend products and dosage based on crop stage.
The best thing about this agriculture app for farmers is that they can also record expenses, yields, and farming activities for each crop cycle.
Our Process
We followed a standard app development cycle to fulfill our client's vision to reach a wider farmer community and solve the above concerns.
- Requirement Gathering: We conducted workshops with the client and interviewed actual farmers to understand needs, habits, and pain points.
- User Flow Mapping: We created a demo of user flows that includes what kind of users will use this app by considering the low-tech literacy of users.
- UI/UX Design: We focused on icon-based navigation and regional language support, as most farmers understand these things.
- Agri Data API Integration: Our developers made a custom API for fetching weather forecasts, pest alerts, and the latest mandi prices.
- Backend Development: Developers created a backend that will store farmer profiles, data storage, and other activity tracking.
- Cross-platform App Development: We used Flutter to offer smooth performance and device compatibility using a single codebase for both Android and iOS.
- Testing with Real Users: We released beta versions to selected regions to get farmers' feedback and improve the app accordingly.
- Launch & Post-Support: We fixed the improvement as per feedback and published on the Play Store and App Store with additional features.

Challenges
As most farmers are uneducated, developing an agriculture mobile app comes with various challenges.
- Language & Literacy Barriers: Many users weren’t fluent in English or weren't good at technical knowledge. So we need to focus more on high-quality visuals that are understood by local people.
- Low Connectivity in Rural Areas: The app needed to work well even with poor internet or offline.
- Data Accuracy: The app depends on real-time weather and market data, which needed a lot of research and trustworthy sources.
- Farmer Onboarding: The app needed to create separate tutorials for features to make users comfortable with understanding and using the app.
- Device Compatibility: Some farmers used old versions of OS, some used old or latest phones, the app needs to be compatible with any desktop or version.
Below are the features our Expert App Devs team implemented to solve the client’s concerns.
Solution
-
Simple Registration & Help
Users can sign up with a mobile number and get onboarding help via videos or IVR calls.
-
Multilingual Support
We added necessary regional languages with easy toggles and minimal text.
-
Icon-Driven Interface
